All airports have some kind of Animal Reception Center, some just a room, some like Amsterdam and Frankfurt, very large sections where they have boxes for horses, kennels and caretakers that are available 24 hours a day. Airlines today will ask the passenger to make a booking, pay for the ticket, and then submit your animal information. They will review the request and tell you if the pets are accepted or not. The passenger may be redirected to the cargo number, if your pet is quite big or outside their normal size, or they will advise they are sorry and cannot authorize the animal. What happens then? The passenger must cancel the flight and buy a new ticket, awaiting the airline refund. This is quite a distress for the passenger and may be looked at as a bad service.
